Every End is a Beginning

As we come closer to the end of 2023, some may be tempted to think we are coming to the end of much more than a calendar year. The “unthinkable” in many areas of our lives, social, political and economic, has become increasingly our reality.

Never as much as today has it become urgent to learn to think and act with a systemic perspective. Without this ability, we are unable to see the dots, let alone connect them. This is because we live in an age of complexity, one of unprecedented levels of interconnections and interdependencies that we cannot decipher or govern without adequate “equipment”.

To explain this, we sometimes compare it to learning to fly by night. At night when it is dark, pilots cannot rely on what they see outside the window of the cockpit; they must be able to fly with instruments.

These instruments, when it comes to managing organizations, have been around for some time. They provide a scientifically sound and effective way to manage high performance organizations and to accelerate flow of production, both of products and services, of communication, and of cash generation. And yet, still in 2023, they are largely unknown. The world still clings on to ideas and practices that are clearly inadequate simply because they’ve been lingering for decades and people have invested in them.

We are beginning to see signs that a new perspective is emerging based on a systems worldview. This cannot happen fast enough. The good news is that we can survive and flourish in our world of complexity when we rely on knowledge, but we need to see this knowledge embraced in our universities, schools and governments. In the meantime, it is in the sphere of business, where Intelligent Management operates, that we are demonstrating how effective a systems approach is; this is why we developed the Decalogue method and all it requires is the courage and perseverance to adopt the change.
